BMW 1989 325i non-running.

Did some initial diagnosis and found everything to be ok except there was 0 compression on cylinder #1.

Pulled off the cylinder head expecting valve problems. Both intake and exhaust valves were bent.

No big deal on the valves, those can be replaced. Inspecting the rest of the block, pistons are still usable.

Whats that going on in cylinder #1.

Little problem in cylinder #1.

At this point I had decided to go ahead with the engine swap so I began gutting everything I didn’t need.

Labels on everything. My advice to anyone doing any car work is to label everything.

Everything is covered in dirty oil.

Why is everything covered in dirty oil.

Oh that’s why.

Connecting rod #1 decided to add its own air cooling.

Everything is disconnected, gotta make room for the new engine.

Load levers are for rich people.

Shifter linkage getting caught on everything on its way out.

Sketchy but it made it out

Enough room for the new engine?

Bad seals everywhere on this thing but still good condition.

I still knew nothing about what I was getting into at this point.
